Chris & Katherine's Garden & Nursery
Design With Us
We love our 18th century farmhouse, and we love living on the grounds of our nursery. But our house is close to the road and its steady traffic, and our land hosts thousands of visitors in spring, summer and fall. We needed to create some screening from the road, as well as a sense of separation between our home, our trial gardens, and our retail nursery.
To complement the historic architecture of our home, we utilized uncommon trees, shrubs, and perennials with year round interest to create privacy from road traffic. We also divided our trial gardens into four distinct rooms, separated by strong features including stone walls, a pergola, and hedges - all of which enable subtle transitions from one garden space to the next. Like the screening materials we used for our farmhouse, each room has been designed for multi-season interest.
Our grounds are a place for innovation, and that's why we also used container plantings throughout the property: troughs with alpines and dwarf conifers, as well as unique, seasonal succulent combinations. We're pleased to have created a dynamic, overall space that supports our constant shifting of mature plants and changing patterns, as we continue to experiment with the wonders of the gardening life.
