Elscholtzia stauntonii alba

Chinese Mint Shrub
You wouldn't notice this plant in a nursery in the spring, unless you brush against the foliage and get a whiff of mint. It doesn't shine until September, when it begins to show off with 6-8" white spires of flowers that attract pollinators of all kinds. In our garden it gets afternoon sun, and is about 3-4 tall, and 5' wide, but we cut it back hard each spring, or it could easily reach 6'. Seems to be unfussy about soil, although don't plant in a very wet spot.
