Schizachyrium scoparium 'Carousel'

Little Blue Stem
This compact cultivar of Little Blue Stem is a native grass which should be used in landscapes more often. Here's why: It thrives in poor soils and full sun, yet will not become a flopper in rich garden loam. It has pleasing colors: blue-green early summer color, developing pink tints in midsummer followed by multiple tones of copper, pink, and mahogany in fall. it is gorgeous sight planted en masse. This handsome well behaved, native grass would be better known if it were more photogenic. 'Carousel' grows to 30" tall and up to 30" wide. Pair it with other natives, such as Asclepias tuberosa and Vernonia lettermanii for a remarkable summer into fall show.
