Hardy Shrubs

Aronia arbutifolia 'Brilliantissima'

Red Chokeberry
This underutilized shrub, native to much of the east coast, shows off in fall and early winter with beautiful red foliage and berries. Plants grow 6-8' tall and bloom in early-mid spring with clusters of small white blossoms that are attractive to honeybees. Aronia is quiet in the summer, but when October rolls around the leaves take on rich red coloring. Berries persist after the leaves drop. Plants are very hardy..we've been growing a specimen in a large winterized pot for years, and it continues to give us an end of the season show.
